He has (allegedly) simply admitted to the team that it would not be worth it to him to play if he were moved. Saving the team the trouble of a trade reversal. Theres no reason for him to move this close to retirement with 1.5/35 of his 7 year salary remaining. Pretty simple. He would like to keep playing in calgary, if the team still really doesnt want him i believe they could force retirement by sendig him to abbotsford? So then what is the issue, they obviously would rather playing him this year then not at all.
Also the fans are not hurt in anyway by not having a scriven/2nd package. Your life will go on. That would be a pretty stupid thing to consider when making life decisions that actually effect the person making them.
