I agree any player can retire at any given time, they have that right. But to say "if you're going to trade me, I'm going to retire" is pretty under handed. If he wants to retire, than do so.
If he were to retire tonight, I'd be fine with it. If he were to be told he was traded and than say "well I'm going to retire INSTEAD of being traded" that isn't right.
He can retire, but being traded to another team shouldn't be the reason for his retirement. If he had said he was going to retire at the end of the year but now he's going to retire because he isn't getting his way, it's a totaly different story.
