You're talking yourself in circles. There is absolutely nothing in Kiprusoff's contract that says he's not allowed to retire whenever he chooses. If he chooses at the end of this year or next, or this year immediately after being traded, he 100% has that right. There's nothing in his contract that states he absolutely has to play to the end of his contract.
If Ovechkin said if you trade me, I'll go back to Russia, he also has that right. He just has to bare in mind that it will be the last dollar he earns from the NHL. If Kipper has decided he'd rather stop getting paid, than being traded, that's his call.
