Totally different situations. Kipper is at the end of his career, speculation running rampant that he will retire after this season. He's merely saying, he'll retire early if traded. Do you really think someone like Stamkos, or Malkin, or Ovechkin would say "don't trade me or I'll retire" while they're still in their 20's? Not a chance. This is no worse than Montreal wanting to sit Gomez so he didn't injure himself so they could buy him out. By your logic Montreal should've been forced to play him because he signed a contract to play hockey for the team.
