A lot of these abused woman are completely controlled and cowed and scared to leave, its the exceptionally brave ones that do, the rest we rarely find out about.
I have incredible sympathy for abused woamn, and everything should be done to find a way to educate them that they can leave, and they can seperate and most importantly they can find protection from these monsters.

Luckily for me I've never been around this type of abuse (that I know of). I can't figure out either side of the equation. Maybe if I knew people in one of these situations it would be different, but in that photo essay for example, the guy looked exactly like the type of guy that would beat his woman. He doesn't seem charming or charismatic...he seems like an ape.
