Hossa with Pitsburgh -- gave up what tuned out to be nothing made cup finals
Borque with Colorado -- didn't win the first year but allowed them to resign borque the following year and then win the cup
It really depends on what you use as a measure of success. If it is cup or bust then there will be mostly busts becasue 4 teams will load up and only one will win. If Boston or Pittsburgh trade for Iggy will winning the East be considered a success? Because the arms race between them right now is to beat each other.
The other factor of looking at trading for iggy is the leg up it will give you in resigning him. If you can resign him to a 3 year deal that fits with your cap structure than giving up more to get that first shot and get him comfortable with your team becomes worth it and it expands the success window for a few more years.
