You're missing the point. Children need direction. Too many hockey parents use the excuse that "hey, my kid loves playing hockey" to justify having a single sport being the centre of their universe for their entire childhood. Maybe the same way that some parents would say "hey, my kid loves studying programming" to justify them playing video games all day.

How would a kid be able to figure out all of the avenues open to him if he's only ever been exposed to the thing that he liked to do when he was 6?
