my son is just finishing his second year as an atom player (goalie), and while the team was eliminated from the playoffs two weeks ago, we still had some practices (which is fine since we are still in the business of developing young players), and to my surprise he did not want to play spring hockey (he opted for ball hockey as a player) - and to be honest I am sort of glad, as I want to see him develop himslef as an athlete - versus just a hockey player. Wehn the year comes where he wants to play more hockey, then I guess I'll be fine with that.
My only problem with spring hockey is the cost, and the number of weekend tourney's - it is tough to give up weekends to be inside at a rink when the weather is getting nice.
All that being said, there are kids out there who only want to play hockey - if that is the case, then why enrol them in something else, if they don't want to be there.
My only hockey dream for my son is for me to be able to someday watch him play his best in a meaningful game (minor hockey week, playoff game etc) - like most young kids his dream is to play for the Buffaloes, then move on to the NHL........
