I loved hockey as a kid (still do), but it was nice to have some time off during the summer to be a kid and hang out with non-hockey playing friends. Finish up the year and then spend a month or 2 riding bikes, playing outside, playing street hockey, going camping and then a month or so before the season starts up again head to hockey school and get ready.
