I wasn't clear. I meant that Rick doesn't have to admit to Michonne that he agreed with the Governor's proposal and then chickened out. He can just say he told Merle about the deal and he took it upon himself to go ahead with it. That way, hopefully, Michonne doesn't come back with a grudge against Rick and others in the group.
Of course, Michonne lopping off Rick's head with her kitana in the season finale
would be a twist many would not see coming...
