Alrighty then.

The average fanon the street IMO never wanted to see this happen...ever. With good reason too.

The fact it has to happen at this point though, is still nothing to celebrate and i find it very confusing to suggest otherwise. The team will NOT be better without him. Hopefully, and its only hope at this point, Feaster doesnt completely screw things up on the return..something im not holding my breath on after his recent spate of incompetance.

There is nothing anywhere in this scenario to "celebrate" for anyone involved.
Successful teams don't operate on the basis of what the average fan in the street thinks. Successful teams operate with one eye on the 3-6 year horizon - something most fans are completely oblivious to. Look at Boston - they moved out a 40 goal scorer just entering his prime for a couple first-round picks. One eye to the future.

The Flames would be much better off today if the people running the team hadn't abrogated their responsibility to build for the future, and had been realistic to recognized that the window for this team winning the Cup ended 3-4 years ago. It's not hindsight to say Iginla should have been traded two years ago. It was the logical thing to do for anyone looking at the roster with cool detachment.

Feaster hasn't screwed anything up - he was handed a team with the worst age/talent/cap profile in the entire NHL, and then was told to keep it in the playoffs. Why do you think the first questions most journalists asked him when he got the job was whether he was going to rebuild the roster? It doesn't matter who was managing the team, we simply did not have the assets to build a contender in the rapidly closing window of Iginla and Kipper still being elite players.

The situation this franchise is in today was entirely predictable - and was predicted by all sorts of NHL watchers from outside of Calgary. That's why we're a laughing stock around the league today. For the last three seasons we've been that guy with too-tight suit, sports car, and fake tan who thinks he can still pull the ladies like he did back when he was 26.
