IMO, at least one of the 2 or 3 pieces we get back will have top potential. Late 1st, blue chip prospect, top 6 forward. Otherwise there's no point.
The time for trading Iginla for a prospect who could replace him was 2-3 seasons ago.

People need to let go of the 'franchise player' label. The teams trading for Iginla don't care what he meant to the Flames in the past. They only care about what he is likely to do for them in the next couple months, or possibly the next couple years.

Mike Modano was the franchise player of the Stars organization for almost 20 years. He ended his career pencilled in as centering the Wing's 3rd line. That's how most star players - even first ballot hall of famers - end their careers.

If you can get one or more pieces back that will do more for the Flames in the next 2-6 seasons than Jarome Iginla will in that time frame, then you do it. I'd be happy with depth in a rebuild. Teams so rarely move out top-flight prospects these days unless it's for players just entering their prime (Richards, Carter).
