Still don't get why they gave Sarich two years if they weren't going to play him. He is still pretty good (I think, anyways), definitely NHL caliber, but the last two coaches have had zero interest in using him unless they had to.
Babchuk has played poorly when he has gotten his limited chances, so I think it is a different situation than Sarich. Babchuk had significantly more expectations when he signed, and he didn't live up to them at all. I thought he was a good player when used properly, but a bad player when his role was changed at all.
As for Cervenka, Feaster just flat out wasted the guys time with this season. He talked about getting an asset for nothing, but the way Cervenka has been played he has no value, probably won't want to come back to Calgary next year, and hasn't been able to help the team with his talent. Really confusing how he has been treated by Hartley, especially being passed over to play against Detroit in favor of McGrattan and Jackman. I love Grats, but playing the guy against Detroit is just pointless.
I know I will get ragged on for being the first guy to bring up Comeau, but it is really perplexing why he was given so much more of an opportunity than these 3 guys. Comeau was dreadful to start the year, and was given enough playing time to eventually find his game and start playing well. He has been a good player for us lately, but I don't understand why he was given such patience and the other 3 players were sent to the press box after any mistake. I don't think anybody can argue that Comeau was the worst player to start the season.
I think most would agree that there is no "meritocracy" when it comes to the coaching staff and management. It seems that different players are held to different standards by both.
