When I worked security a couple years ago, we were told to never touch anyone unless you were in immediate danger. We had full training on how to deal with dangerous people, we had stab-proof vests, hand cuffs, some guys had pepper spray but you were never allowed to use it. All that stuff is to maintain your own safety and not to apprehend someone. Your not allowed to chase someone either. You can maintain a safe walking distance until police arrive but if the person runs, you have to let them go.
In most cases that I've seen the "failed cop" label can be applied. A lot of the guys thought they were some authority figure one step below the police when in reality the only difference between them and a regular person is the uniform. Like most bouncers I've seen they only tend to fight when they have greater numbers too. A security guard is just supposed to be a visual deterent, if anything major happens you call the cops.
I would be suprised if some of these guys aren't fired or have their licenses revoked.
