.....soooo true! those first few nights were looooong!!!!
again - i just want to thank all of you for the kind words and encouragement - it's much appreciated
i thought i'd give a little update and post a few more pics...
we knew going into delivery that Jordan was breach. for all of you (like me) who don't have a clue as to what that means... the head was up by mom's ribs and the bum was down by mom's pelvis... so in a nut shell, she was chilling up-side-down. it's not that big of a deal, but becuz she was breach we knew my wife would need a c-section (the doc's didn't want to risk trying to flip Jordan.... in some cases that is a possibility and then they attempt a natural child birth).
becuz Jordan couldn't really move inside of mom she didn't quite grow/develop normally. when she came out, she was doing some funky splits - her left foot was up by her left ear (with her left knee hyper-extended) and her right knee was up by her right armpit. as a result her hips didn't develop properly and dislocate. this apparently is not at all uncommon with breach babies. a specialist was in to see us within a couple hours of Jordan's arrival and made the diagnosis official. by the next morning there was a harness that was put on our little girl... she looks sorta funny in it, but she doesn't seem to mind it. the objective of the harness is to push the top of the femur (the ball part) into the hip socket. we have to leave the harness on for 6 weeks, then hopefully everything will be fixed - so that's encouraging!!
here she is all harnessed up:
and now onto some cute pics.....
she makes the best faces when we need to wake her up to feed - the 'yawn face' is pure gold!!!
and this is how she was sleeping earlier today - so funny. she was out cold with her 'hands up in the air'....
and a funny story from the first night.....
this is our first child so we're kinda clueless.... let me rephrase that.... my wife LOVES kids (that could be why she's a teacher) and has tons of friends with little ones, so she sorta has an idea as to what to expect. me on the other hand... well, i'm more of the 'let me see the kid when i can't break them' kind of guy. before monday i had never held a baby, let alone a new born!!
so monday night Jordan starts to fuss.... and by fuss i mean scream like there was hell fire falling from above. my wife tried everything she could think of to no avail. i look at her and say (almost jokingly), 'here, let me try.' she passes Jordan off to me and i get her in my arms. she got in 1 good scream, then a medium one, then a little murmur, then she was out cold. i stood there, looked at my wife and said, 'REALLY!!!! are you freakin' kidding me!!' i guess my little girl just loves her daddy! now i'm the 'go to' guy every time she starts to cry and pretty much every time she mellows out within about 5 seconds
