Backlund has had some bad luck and nothing more. Although he could work on his shot blocking technique Just because he's had some bad luck with injuries does not mean he is destined to continue to get injured over and over again. There's no logic behind that idea.
Some players put themselves in positions to get hurt more than others though. I'm not saying that this is the case here, but blocking shots with poor technique is a possible sign. It would require a lot of quality footage of Backlund to see if he consistently uses poor technique when attempting to block shots or if this was an unlucky case. At least he keeps his head up while skating and we're not talking about concussions here.
