Fair, no one might give up a top prospect for either Kipper or Iggy this year, market demand might not allow the Flames to get such value. And it's not that teams won't be thinking about contract status when they make offers. But plenty of rentals have been traded for top prospects and good return in the past, but you make it sound like it's some massive barrier to a deal, and you make it sound like it's a fact. In today's cap world, an expiring contract can be viewed in many cases as a benefit versus the hinderence you are describing. Iggy likely has more value as a rental than he would if he had 2 more years at 7 million left on his contract, whether that would net the Flames a top prospect or not is another story.

Alright, so we have a debate. What are your examples of top prospects traded at the deadline for pending UFAs? Let's start there.
