Because he is a lousy GM? People talk about how Burke inherited a Stanley Cup team, but at least Burke signed some very key players to that roster. What's Feaster's claim to fame? Trading for Darryl Sydor? After that, when everyone said that he couldn't possibly re-sign their big three players and field a competitive team, he went and signed them all to massive contracts which handicapped the team and tried to fill the void that Khabibulin left with career backups. For years he allowed for massive holes on that roster to go un-addressed (sounding familiar?) and this was before ownership got involved like they did.
Personally, I think ownership's involvement is overblown on this board. I don't doubt that ownership approval for the big moves is required, but when it comes to trading upcoming UFA's that you have no intention of re-signing, let's be real here guys, that is all Feaster. There's no chance that Feaster needs ownership consent to trade a guy like Scott Hanna...
