My wife recently lost her keys and fob for our chevy traverse. After the rediculous quote from the dealership we used ebay. We got 2 fobs for $50 and key blanks with chips for $12 each. Once you get the fobs they email you programming instructions and it worked well.

Depending on the brand of car you may or may not be able to program them yourself anymore. For our traverse it was anyting 2011 or newer needed to be programed by the dealer but we could still buy the cheap fobs.

All told instead of $500 for Fobs, Keys and programming we spend $70 and got two sets of everything instead of just one.
