There is brainwashing, but not everyone is broken. Some just go with the flow because the alternative is a prison camp or starvation. Thousands of North Koreans escape/defect every year... so somebody in NK knows something or else they wouldn't have defected. |
That's a great book. What's really odd if you read a lot of defector accounts is not very many of the defectors blame the Kim's for the starvation or poverty and still show devotion and love for the family.
It does take a long time to break through the indoctrination in their education system.
