TOTF's idea for rebuilding has as much merit as the scorched earth method other people are advocating. In fact, it's rare that a team trades every veteran when rebuilding. There is still a need for leadership and continuity when going with youth (as the Ottawa example points to).

I don't get why trading Iginla is scorched earth. To me it's simply turning the page. Teams in professional sports do it all the time. You seem to think he's still part of the solution despite the fact that he's the longest serving member of a team that has advanced past the first round of the playoffs once in over 20 years. I think we have to realize that despite all the good things Iginla has done that he is not part of the solution nor part of the future for the Calgary Flames.
