Iggy is not the coward here, the cowards are the owners.

Iggy is just a jock from a small town, and ever since the age of 16, things have basically been handed to him. He's never had to make any big business decisions in his life. Even the contracts he signed with the Flames didn't take much considering his RFA status. The Flames were going to pay up no matter what.

The owners on the other hand, are big business people, they are use to making big decisions and difficult decisions. With regards to this organization, this is the biggest decision they'll have to make, and so far they have shown that they are short sighted and not forward thinking.

Iggy has already publicly said that he will waive if the team asks him to. That's about as clear an answer as Iggy can give. It's up to the owners to man up and do the right thing and yes, take a short term hit on your image and maybe in the pocketbook (not losses, just not as big earnings) for the long term gain.
