Why the panic over losing to the Stanley Cup champs and one of the few teams that are likely to dethrone them? We're all in agreement that this team is not a playoff team, but it's probably not bad enough to get to a top 3-5 pick. Then if we're going to be sellers, which players are we going to sell, and who's likely to buy? Most of our "pretty good" players are on overpaying contracts. Kipper would be a bargain, but his play this year isn't consistent enough for a contender with a goaltending need to give up much to get him. Iginla might get us a 20-30th first round pick. Glencross, Backlund and Brodie would be the best candidates for blow-up trades, but I doubt many of us would like to see them punted. I think Feaster is stuck with riding this one to the end of the trail, maybe making one or two trades that won't appreciably change the outcome (20-25th place finish), and hope for improvement through expiring contracts, our prospects, and a free agent or two.
Business as usual.
