If this team was to trade just Cammy, Iginla, and Bouwmeester and get a top 5 pick we would have a very real chance of being competitive in the next two seasons and avoid a Edmonton style rebuild. Alternatively you lose Kipper, Iggy, and Bouwmeester for nothing and all of a sudden you are the Oilers 4 years ago.
You don't become the Oilers by doing an intelligent rebuild. You become them by mismanaging your team until the bottom falls out.
