oilers have some fairly clear issues.

They have glaring gaps/holes in their roster, and a management group that is too stubborn/dumb to take the necessary steps to fill those.

Reasons why the oilers rebuild is a failure:
1) Team lacks size/grit in the top 6 (eberle, hopkins, gagner, hemsky, yakupov). heck even fragile hall, that just isn't a heavy group to play against. If you keep the game along the boards, that isn't a group to create much offense.

2) Dmen that know how to play defense (don't think there's much to elaborate here).

3) over-valuing current roster pieces instead of trading them for established players who can help the team win. Hemsky, khabiboulin, gagner (?), smyth, horcoff, the list likely goes on, but i'm sure these could have/still be used in order to shore up their top 4 Dmen. not sure why hemsky hasn't been traded for 3 years now.

4) Crap drafting. Everyone wants to point out the flames craptastic draft record, but when you look at the oilers, have they got anything valuable on the roster outside of their 1st round picks??? pens got letang/talbot/etc, chi got bolland/etc, just off the top of my head.

How Klowe has a job is just beyond me. one of the dumbest hockey management groups running a once proud franchise. Keep it going though, at least it gives flames fans something to keep their head up about.

it's so damn fun thinking how much better this team would be had they taken the #2 picks in all 3 past rounds (seguin, landeksog, murray). That's an exceptional #1 Center with size/skill, a power winger who's already the league's youngest captain, and an up and coming great Dman. Instead they have hall (good, not great winger who is prone to injuries due to reckless play), hopkins (small center, who's already showing that the physicality of the league may limit his overall effectiveness), yakupov (smallish Euro winger, haven't even realized he's in the NHL, what is he good at exactly??).
