That was exactly my sleep pattern. I wouldn't sleep well for days and then would crash. Eventually it really wears you down and if you let it go on long enough it can really start to damage your heart, brain and well everything.
The fix for me...a sleep study and a CPAP machine. Now a 4-5 hr sleep is BETTER than a 8-10 hour one was before. I can't tell you how much better i feel. It's night and day. It's been 8 months and I've lost 30 pounds for example...something that was impossible for me to do before the CPAP.
All it took was that sleep study to tell me that I stopped breathing ~20 times an hour and by the middle of the night my oxygen was dropping to stupid low levels (do you ever suddenly wake up with your heart pounding and feeling nauseous? That's a sign your oxygen level is droppping).

What were the costs for a CPAP? I'm reading anywhere between 2000-2500 for the machine.
