It will be a bad deal one day, but most long term contracts are. Langkow's deal was a steal early on, bad in its last year; same will be with Brad Richards, same will be with Parise, etc etc etc.

The trend towards these long term deals is still in it's infancy and four to five years down the road we are likely going to see a lot of teams having to deal with the fallout of these deals as I expect there are going to be more than a few of these guys that won't be playing remotely close to their pay level at the last 1/4 of these deals. I actually feel pretty good that the Flames don't have anyone tied up to one of these deals as they likely will cost some teams the services of their top young players when they are eligible for free agency. Oilers in particular picking first overall year after year are going to have an impossible time keeping that team together.
