If the Flames win their next game in Regulation or OT, they will be 8th in the western conference after 22 games. Right now they win tiebreakers with every team that would be tied at 24 points in 22 games.
If the Flames win their next 2 games in Regulation or OT, they can be no worse than having the 6th best record in the Western Conference through 23 games. That could go as high as 4th if San Jose loses their extra game in regulation, Calgary's win over LA is in regulation, and LA loses their other game in regulation.
For all of the Flames faults, they are only 4 games having the right result (certainly possible) from having the 4th best record in the conference through 23 games (about half the season).
