You hit the nail on the head. It's an issue of no brains. The only thing with less brain power than the individual players is the collective mind of the PA.
I have absolutely no sympathy for guys like Staal, and I don't think it's something that the league should, or should have to, make mandatory. It's an issue of personal protection, different from Flash's examples of bigger cleats and aluminum bats, both of which would present a danger to other players. I agree wholeheartedly with his comment that insurance premiums should go sky high for guys who don't wear visors, or better yet, the insurance company should exclude coverage for injuries caused by preventable causes such as wearing a visor. If that happened, every guy in the league would be wearing one tomorrow.
Bottom line, if these guys are too f'ing stupid to look after their own safety, why should anyone else bother?
