One would think, but when you hear former GM's like Doug Maclean and Mike Milbury talking on TV, I tend to question the baseline intelligence needed to become a GM. Add in a few middling owners who likely get all their knowledge of the game from TV, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least a little bit of media influence when it came to decisions amongst some of the more poorly led teams.
