Kim Jong-eun is not as stupid as his dad - and definitely more pacifist. It's his surrounding military entourage that generally put words in his mouth, most of whom are scared to toe the party line for fear of execution. Kim Jong-il has done that before with senior leaders.

you're making a big assumption here with not much to back it up. Kim Jung-un ordered the artillary strike on the South Korea Island and he was responsible for the sub attack on the South Korean Frigate, these acts were actually done after Kin Jong-Un adopted the title of party central and named Marshall in the Military.
I just read a really excellent book on North Korea that discusses the grandfather, the father and the Son, I'll put the title up when I get home tonight.
Kim Jong-Il was the furthest thing from stupid, he consolidated power in a far more ruthless manner then his old man, got rid of the Chinese supporting faction in the government and heeled the Military and Intelligence groups to his family's direction. He was a pretty saavy player who had a bigger ruthless streak then his father.
As much as we want to say that the son is a pacifist and a reformer he's not, he's still spending lavish amounts of money on himself and his close friends and family instead of dealing with the starvation of his people. He hasn't reformed the Gulag system, if anything he's increased the population in the Gulag to increase production.
He's continued the nuclear weapons program and the ballistics weapons programs.
He was trained at the knee of his father was far more ruthless and ready to lead then his brothers one who's a suspected homosexual, and the other who tried to sneak into Japan. His sister who is now running the security apparatus was a cut from the old mans jib but she was a woman and never had a shot at power.
The kid is just as corrupt and uncaring of anything but his own wealth and power as his old man.
