The guy inherited this mess, because the regime that came before him drafted one elite player (at the time) in ten years, and then traded him for a steaming pile of garbage.
Our biggest roster weakness is lack of elite talent down the middle, and Feaster has tried repeatedly to fix it, at least three times now that we know of. (Richards, Cervenka, O'Reilly)
It's nearly an impossible problem to fix, without drafting and developing the solution and that takes time......more than two years anyways.

I saw ROR as a last ditch effort at "rebuilding on the fly". 22 years old and would have had an immediate impact on the teams success now as well as presumably years to come. Now that we missed out I really don't see many other options other than to blow it up.
I've given the rebuild on the fly a chance but we're really starting to back ourselves into a corner. We have lots of goalies in the system but no clear cut successor for Kipper. We've made attempts at acquiring top end C's but they haven't worked out. It's reached the point where we now have 1 natural 2nd/3rd line NHL centre on our roster and another injured C who looked to be emerging but we still aren't 100% sure what we have. We have few tradable assets and most of them we are reluctant to part with. We are right up against the salary cap.
Not meant to be a doom and gloom post or to bash Feaster, it's just how I see things after today. I said when Feaster got here I'd give him until this trade deadline before I really made a decision on how well he's managed the team so far. All things considered he's done well but I'm really curious to see what happens come deadline day. I also realize its not just him who is pulling the strings as far as the direction of the team is concerned.
I hope management and ownership sees the team for what it is and we are sellers at the deadline. I worry this wont be the case again though.
