Now that Colorado has matched...
Now that many have gotten to digest the offer sheet situation, and although this is clearly a "What if" thread, you never know how quickly the Avs may act on the offer sheet. If the trade deadline 2014 factor comes into play within the next few days, COL won't have too long to think about it, so it may be worth some thoughts on where the Flames are at if Colorado blinks at ROR's demands and matches the Flames sheet.
Besides the pat on the back that fans and media will give to Feaster for being bold and giving it a good try (similar to the credit he took when almost wooing Richards away from the Rangers at the 11th hour) where will things be when the accolades are done and there isn't the prize at the end?
Does Feaster's creativeness/desperation (however you look at it) to bring in a player via the seldom-used offer sheet process, mean he's more or less able to make moves with the GM's in the league going forward?
Will the NHL GM's sink him further down the "don't want to deal with list, a position it can be argued Feaster is already in a firm grasp of, or does this maneuver send the green light to other teams how desperate/creative Feaster may be in potential trades for centres, or, anyone on the Flames roster, and open up the communication lines?
His run at Richards would've changed the complexion of this team this year and last year, and would've had that number one center...a position that he has yet to fill, and has fallen further, as we all know, behind the eight ball on since the offseason since Jokinen was cast off and the start of this season with an injury and a demotion leaving the team with one center. Same could be argued with O'Reilly..if he succeeds, the team will look a lot different than if COL matches. But if Colorado matches, are we back to Ari's thread about addressing the "C" again, yet with Feaster now having the added stigma of breaking the unwritten rule of offersheets and/or being blamed for inflating RFA prices from fellow GM's?
