Edit: Just looking at this again, I don't know how it could be a coincidence over 25 years. The flames haven't once taken a legitimate approach to drafting players. Look where it's gotten them.

Actually, Feaster has been quite explicit that he prefers mature prospects to picks, as they're closer to being NHL ready. He said exactly that in an interview a year or two ago.
Which only highlights this franchise's abiding weakness: impatience. A bird in hand is always preferable to one in the bush. Problem is, you very rarely bring any top-flight young talent into the organization with that approach, because the best young players so rarely get moved.
