The presence of fans of the parent team has little, if anything, to do with the success of the AHL team in drawing fans. IF that were the case the majority of AHL markets would fail.

Fair point, but Hershey's AHL franchise has been around since 1938, it's very established and thus I would agree with you that it's big league team doesn't really matter at this point. I wouldn't complain if they wanted to establish an outfit in Cleveland or Houston those are huge Metro areas. I'm just saying that if they want to establish an affiliate in a (relatively) small city it might as well be one close and with a few people who care about the big league team. I'm sick of having our AHL team move all the time St John-Omaha-Quad City-Abbotsford in 10 years. Also in 2004 we didn't even have an official affiliate we had to share some random team, might have cost us a Cup...
