Here is how I would change the team (probably way off in terms of value).
Trade 1
To Blues: Iginla, Butler, Backlund, Babchuk, Comeau/Jackman
To Flames: Stewart, Rattie, Cole, 1st 2013
Iggy gets to play for a deep talented team, Butler gets to go to his hometown team as a nice fill in. Backlund gets to play with Bergland to see if they can get the chemistry they had during the lockout.
Flames get a good RW that can play today only 25 years old, get a top RW prospect, get a potential top 4 dman and a first round pick. Hate to give up Backlund but getting Rattie, Cole and the first plus Stewart who can help now is going to cost more than just Iggy.
Trade 2
To Flyers: Curtis Glencross, Jay Bouwmeester (retain 50% of his salary)
To Flames: Schenn brothers 2nd round pick
Flames get a future top 6 center possibly a number 1 and a guy that can be a big mean 2nd pairing shutdown Dman. They give up Glencross who seems to fit the Flyers current plan and Bouwmeester who is a needed #1 Dman for Philly.
Trade 3:
To Blackhawks: Kipper, Stempniak, Sarich/Smith (Flames retain some salary)
To Flames: Emery, Hjalmersson, 1st
Hawks bring in a top goalie to solidify their team moving forward. They add some depth at forward and downgrade at D
Flames get a first round pick, top 4 Dman who is 26 and a backup goalie to fill in for the rest of the year.
Trade 4
To Avs: Stajan, Blues 1st, Granlund
To Flames: O'Rielly
Flames get a top 6 forward using 1 of their acquired firsts, decent prospects and sell high on Stajan. The Avs get a first, prospect, and player than can help right now. They also cash in on $2.5M actual $ but $3.5M cap hit for Stajan.
New Flames next year
Tanguay-O'Rielly-Hudler
Cammy-Schenn-Stewart
Sven-MacKinnon/Barkov/Monahan-Rattie
Bouma-Reinhart-Jackman
Gio-Wideman
Hjalmmerson-Brodie
Schenn-Cole
Ramo
Emery/MacDonald
I bet my trades are off but that is a team that can challenge for a playoff spot next year in my opinion as they have a decent mix of youth and veterans and add some significant grit.
