Personally, I would be very hard pressed to build anything that I would consider good for under 1K (not including peripherals). For example, I would never recommend any of my friends build a gaming PC today that does not contain an SSD and at least a 670GTX or an HD7950 - those two components alone will run you $400-$500 depending on the size of the drive. Unless you pirate your OS's, Windows will cost you $100. So you're already talking $500-$600 and you haven't even considered processor/mb/ram/psu/case.

You don't need a 670 to get "decent" gaming. "Decent" means "average" or "passable", which is in line with a $200 660.
