Top 3 D are in high demand due to lack of supply. Bouwmeester is overpaid but on a short contract. Bouwmeester has brought back his game to somewhat Flordia levels. Bouwmeester is still somewhat young.
I put it this way, a team like Detroit is usually somewhat frugal. Last year D were in short supply and they gave up a 1st for Kyle Quincy. People can argue well Hossa, Kovalchuk only got these assets, however those guys also wanted crazy large long term contracts which hurt their teams looking to trade them.
Bouwmeester is worth a 1st round pick, a blue chip prospect and a somewhat young roster player OR a 1st line forward with similar age and salary.
basically if the Flames somewhat blew it up and traded Kipper, Iginla and Bouwmeester this year they could probably net 2-3 1st round picks, a couple blue chip roster players and a couple young roster players. The question is.....will management go that way or stay status quo and on the "fence".
