Why wouldn't the dispatcher have all that information anyway?
I don't see where this is any different than hailing a cab on the side of the road or a driver giving his cell number to a passenger to call in the future, which cab drivers have been doing for years.
Every time I've ever taken a cab, the driver has called in to dispatch to say that he has picked up a fare and what the destination is going to be. In the newer cabs, they have a touch-screen that seems to do all that without needing to call in.
