I don't know if Gio's intent was to injure the guy. If his motive was to hurt the guy, then it can be considered dirty. If it were just careless and unthinking, then it's not, by definition, dirty, and to me, this falls into the latter.
Going into the boards like that, Gio looks like he's trying to put a shoulder in front of the guy and trying to get in front of him. Because he doesn't get there first, he uses his shoulder and pushes back the guy while his legs were apart, causing the Stars player to fall back and trip over Gio's leg. If his legs were less apart, it wouldn't be a problem.
It's a trip that would be a penalty most of the time, but now the player tripped was in a vulnerable position. It's not even a slew foot, as from what I understand, you have to move your foot forward and basically sweep the guy's leg for it to be that. It looks like Giordano uses his body to make the guy go over his own leg and I don't really see Gio moving his leg forward. Maybe it's a careless play, but I'd be surprised if there was any suspension out of this. I'm thinking 50/50 chance of a fine with the most likely scenario is he gets a reprimand from the league and gets told to be careful not to trip guys like that so close to the boards.
