"Mullato" has been around for centuries, replaced more lately by "Mixed" or "biracial."
Google the phrase "Is Beyonce Black?" No shortage of links.
The debate is probably becoming more casual versus serious these days but nevertheless "who is genuinely black" has been something debated for centuries.
