Several issues here, but the primary one is blood thinners.
Give him a chance to, first, recover physically, and then second, recover athletically.

I actually forgot about the blood thinners for some reason. I suppose that and the fact that maybe he wasn't skating or practicing for a while has a lot to do with it.
