So I infer from this that the league was trying to take the judgement out of the call and just issue a blanket rule.
While I can understand the reasoning behind that rationale, it was a really dumb decision to make. Plays like what Wideman did shouldn't be penalized in any hockey universe. Just a silly penalty all the way around, really.
