That whole situation is a lot more complicated than a single vote. UND tried to go the path of Florida State, who retained the Seminole name by obtaining the blessing of the Seminole tribe. UND got permission from one Sioux tribe, but had another hold out (in somewhat controversial fashion) leading to years of lawsuits.
