I referred back to 2004 (almost 9 years ago) because I think that is the only reason fans think Iginla has some sort of "Legacy" with the team.
1 Cup run does not make a player a legend.
500 Goals with 1 team is pretty special, but those are individual accomplishments and the bulk of those goals came in seasons where the Flames failed to make the Playoffs.
How many 50 goal seasons did Iginla have when the Flames made the Playoffs?
I think the problem that is plaguing the Flames is that Flames fans accept mediocrity as long as they have a 'hero' to turn to. As a result, Flames ownership is hesitant to pull the trigger on a rebuild because they want to keep a marketable asset.
If this was Montreal the rebuild would have been started alot sooner. No way is that storied franchise going to accept 24 years with only 1 first round victory to show for.
Lots of Canadian teams have made it to the stanley cup finals in the past 10 years
Canucks, Oilers, Senators. All of these teams except for Vancouver have already rebuilt their teams.
