“At the point in time two weeks from now, when Kipper is ready to go, then we’ll determine who is going to be the backup goaltender on this team,” Feaster said.

“I think Leland Irving thus far as acquitted himself very, very well. So now we have Leland Irving who is trying to demonstrate that he wants to be a No. 1 in the National Hockey League and can be. And we also have a 33-year-old backup who has 101 games of experience on his resume.

“In terms of Leland, keep doing what you’re doing and put us in a situation where two weeks from now the answer is obvious.”

"From my perspective, the fact the number one goaltender is out, that ought to cause every guy in that room to raise their level that much higher," Feaster said. "They ought to look at a kid like Leland Irving and say 'This guy is busting his backside giving us a chance to win every game. How about if we step up and do our part?'

"Two weeks from now, we'll know that we're either in the pack or we've fallen terribly behind, but we'll know it based on team play and not because of the play of one guy."

"It was a quick turnaround, but I was excited," MacDonald said. "I'm just going to come in here and give myself an opportunity to play. Practice is huge especially coming off a back injury like I was over the last year. Once I get the opportunity, give myself a chance to win."
