Yeah, I've read the paper from the Depauw (same school where Brad Stevens played) head coach about fouling up 3. I get that it's the right move if you can get him before he gets the shot off. You seem more convinced than me that he would've been able to foul in time. I'm especially unsure that LeVert would have been able to foul in time since it was played in Wisconsin. College basketball has the most "hometown calls" across all major sports and I wouldn't want to leave that up to the officials.
Do you know of any rules against fouling Brust before he catches the ball as long as the defender is making a play at the ball? That seems like the best option to me.
