I still find it weird that Iginla is considered old, now. Only because 2004 still feels like yesterday, to me. I can't believe that was almost NINE years ago! That guy used to be absolutely unstoppable.... He willed his way to the net. No one could stop him. That shorthanded goal against SJ will forever be burned in my memory. Fighting Ohlund and showing up lecavalier, even holding his own against Hatcher. Man, do I miss that.....
But now, when I think about it, he's not that 27 year old raging bull anymore. He's turning 36....Iginla is definitely not the same player as he was then. Age catches up to everyone. His days of being a top 5, even top 10 player in this league are over.
The problem is that it's only been Iginla. I can't think of any championship team that only had one star player (that wasn't a cinderella team.) That man has carried this team on his back for over a decade. I see this year, not as Iginla's last chance to win with the Flames, but as the Flames last chance to win with Iginla. I hope the organization feels the same.
IMO, if they're out of the dance come deadline day, the Flames should do themselves and Iginla a favour and trade him to a Contender. The guy is all class and deserves a championship. If he can't do it here, let him do it somewhere else.
