“Leland Irving kept us in the game,” said head coach Bob Hartley. “Without him, it would have been much worse than this.”

“They wanted it way more than us,” Hartley said. “It doesn’t sit right, because they basically had the same schedule as us. That’s going to be the test. Part of out-working a team is your mental preparation. Tonight we had a great start, and it faded away.”

“In this business, you can’t satisfy yourself with this, especially with a poor effort,” Hartley said. “The bottom line is that we just didn’t give ourselves the chance to win the game.

“It’s sad, because you’re playing the Vancouver Canucks. They’re our archrivals, our divisional rivals. You play a great first period, and suddenly the game is over.
