If you don't do all 3 it's going to fade badly over time. It's a cool option for sure but so problematic.

Also be sure to have the matte oriented properly if you don't have a picture in it yet (which you most likely won't). Ours was passed around rather than sitting on a table. It started being signed with a portrait orientation, then half way through it became landscape oriented. Looks a little silly, but it's still special.
